We will be going to the mountains to reflect on our theme this year, "Pass It On", as we hear, study, and discuss our Savior, Jesus', words. There will also be times during the week when it is not so quiet and restful such as during the evening games, hiking, swimming, canoeing, etc! You get the picture! Come see old friends and make new friends. Come see God's beautiful mountain! We look forward to spending the week with you. For those of you who were able to come last year, please not only come again but also spread the word and bring a friend or cousin. A whole bunch of pictures from this last year's camp are posted on the "GSBC Pictures" link on the right side of this page.

This year's registration deadline will be June 30th. Please have your registration forms postmarked by then to avoid the $30 late fee.

Camp Spring Mountain Workday/Family Weekend 2011
The weekend for our annual Saturday workday and optional family weekend in the mountains is planned to be held on April 29-May 1, 2011 (The weekend AFTER Easter). Saturday, 4/30, will be the actual workday. Please try to arrive at 8:30 AM. Consider joining us to help with some spring camp projects on Saturday and also think about coming up Friday night for some family fun. GSBC 2011
Once again look for 2011 information at some of the WELS Southern California hosted gradeschool tournaments and fairs or from your local pastor. The GSBC promo table will have extra registration forms, pens, fliers, and the raffle cards for you to try to win one free week at camp. You can also download a registration form from this website and take it to your pastor for a signature. The dates for GSBC 2011 are reserved for Sunday, July 17th, through Saturday, July 23rd. Please MARK your calendars now so that you plan around those dates. Your registrations will be due by June 30th. Don't wait until then, ask your parents if you can fill one out now. Arizona/Nevada Friends
We are always very thankful for the friends that come to camp from both Arizona and Nevada. We are not only happy to see you but we are also very appreciative of your extra drive to get to GSBC. Looking BACK Fondly
Would you like to skip through some memories and friends from past camp years? Lots of you have done that at camp by flipping through the photo albums in the lodge. We now have some electronic versions from recent years which are similar to Grandpa Jim's annual photo albums from years past. Please go to the link "GSBC Pictures" to explore our camp or to bring back memories. All of the pictures can be downloaded and are ready for printing up to about a 5" x7" photo.

Camp Volunteer Staffing Needs (June, July)
We will assess our needs in June or as soon as we start getting in your registrations. Our volunteer needs range from cabin shepherds, craft helpers, kitchen help, games-canoes-music-archery leads. Some of our special needs include qualified nurses or EMTs, and certified life guards. We are a volunteer run camp and more help is always better for the camp. All you volunteers can register with a staff form OR better yet, drop us an email anytime at "GSBCmail@gmail.com" or call Pastor Warskow.

Spring Mountain Workday/Weekend Details

2011 Mountain Weekend
Friday, 4/29 through Sunday, 5/01

The workday is on Saturday from 9 AM - 4 PM. Come just for the day or stay for part of the weekend.

The weekend family "fun" can start on Friday night at 4PM and/or stay overnight Saturday evening.

This year we will work on the following projects depending upon the number of volunteer workers who can be there on Saturday:
1) Lodge Roofing
2) Painting
3) Cleaning cabins
4) Cooking for everyone
5) Childcare for the younger children while the parents work (please tell us your are interested in this care)

There are jobs to do for all skill levels! Please come and help. It will be more fun than you might have imagined!

COST and FOOD....
Saturday Workday- - FREE
We will provide a lunch for all.

Friday Night FUN- - FREE
Lodging is totally FREE. There will be no food prepared on Friday night. You are welcome to bring some snacks to share while we play games in front of the fireplace. The kitchen will be operational.

Saturday Night FUN/Sunday- - GREAT VALUE!
Lodging is totally FREE. For those who stayed over or would like to come up early Saturday, we will serve breakfast around 8:30 AM. Later in the day we will also prepare a large dinner meal and for those who stay over Saturday evening, we will prepare a Sunday breakfast. The cost for all the meals is $4 per meal per person. For a family of four or more, there is a flat cost of $40 for the whole weekend of meals. GOOD Food at really GOOD Prices!

WHAT TO BRING UP THE MOUNTAIN....
Saturday Workday

Most of the cleaning, painting, and outdoor tasks will have tools provided by the camp. Your favorites (gloves, tools) for these tasks are welcome.
For the more "construction" tasks you should bring the right tools and/or call Randy Baker to coordinate what might be needed.
"Old" clothes for the workday projects would be appropriate

Friday/Saturday Night Fun Times

Bring any snacks that you might want to have for the evening.
A variety of beverages will be provided.
The evening group typically gathers in the lodge by the big five foot tall fireplace and the kitchen area.
Bring any games that you might want to play in the lodge.
Hiking anywhere around the camp grounds is welcomed.

Friday/Saturday Overnight Arrangements

We will be staying in the cabins which are heated. We will also use the lodge bunk beds.
The bunk arrangements will be "family style" trying to fill up the beds as needed.
The cabins and the lodge offer the indoor bathrooms as well as showers.

Clothing Recommendations

The weather forecast is "SPRING" in the Mountains. You will need to dress warmly at times.
Layers of clothes is a good approach to allow you to adjust your comfort depending on the time of day and how active you are.
The temperature may swing from 55-65 degrees during the day to 30s at night and early morning.

We will have a group devotion in the lodge for all those who stayed overnight Saturday.

In Memory of Grandpa Jim...

July 1926 - February 2009

Jim Fairchild was taken home to be with Jesus in heaven on Sunday, February 8, 2009.
We are very sad to lose our dear GSBC friend and camp supporter, known by all the children as "Grandpa Jim". God has blessed GSBC with Grandpa Jim for very many years. Through Grandpa Jim, the lives of many children were brought closer to Jesus as he became friends with them during camp week and shared the beauty of God's creation with them on the many hikes he led. His love for God's creation created a passion in him for learning about it all. Anyone who has ever hiked with him will remember how he seemed to know something about everything in the forest. God also led Grandpa Jim to use these skills for local mountain rescues where he led emergency response teams who saved lives. As a faithful disciple of Jesus, he touched thousands of lives. Although we are going to miss him very much, we are happy for Grandpa Jim to have now gone to the "final mountain top" to be with Jesus his Savior. We, each one of us, can look forward to meeting him again in heaven. If you would like to see a photo album remembering Grandpa Jim, please go to the following link, "GSBC Remembers Grandpa Jim". Registrations are due by June 30th (or there is a $30 late fee).

Registration Fees for the full week are:
Campers $230 (NO CHANGE!!!)
Sr. Overnight hike fee $20
Staff $80
No other money is required during the camp week!

Campers includes any children who are entering the 4th grade through the 10th grade in September 2011.
Staff (for all of the volunteer positions) includes anyone who is entering 11th grade through anyone who is up to "99 years" old.

Volunteer Staff Information

Here an overview of our typical volunteer staff needs:

Cabin Shepherds

Shepherds care for our campers during the week. We use a mix of adults, teens (who are in 11th grade or higher), and college students. We have assign two shepherds per cabin (approximately 12 campers) to achieve about 6:1 ratio. Shepherds lead campers as well as participate with the campers in their activities. We need shepherds for boy's and girl's cabins ...
- Juniors (4th and 5th graders)
- Intermediates (6th, 7th, and 8th graders)
- Seniors (9th and 10th graders)

Nurses (two minimum but 3 - 4 are desirable)
Certified Lifeguards (two are needed, one for the pool, one for the lake every afternoon)
Kitchen Leads and Helpers

We cook all of the meals for camp in the large campground kitchen. We have a kitchen lead and assistant to organize ordering the supplies, the meal schedule, and running the kitchen for three meals per day (typically about 220 meals per meal). We use a kitchen crew to help do all of the meal preparation serve all the meals.

Scullery Leader (one or two people to daily lead the various cabins who volunteer to help cleanup after a meal.)
Canoe Leader (one person to daily lead the various cabins who go to the lake for their canoe activity.)
Activities Leader(s) (one person minimum but two is much better to daily organize the evening large group game activity as well as organize the free play games in the afternoons.)
Archery Leader (one person to daily lead the various cabins their archery activity.)
Crafts Leader and Helpers

We will have one crafts leader or pre-arranges the crafts to be done by the various age groups, purchases the supplies necessary, and then leads the craft helpers to execute the making of the craft projects. Several helpers are desired and more as the number of campers increases.

Handyman (one is desired to help either fix pop items as they occur or help to coordinate with the on-site campground staff to work an issue that may come up.)
Bible Study Leaders (several are required to service all of the different groups every morning.

Pastors and teachers are always encouraged to come and see the children in a whole new environment from their normal exposure, lay teachers are also very welcome to teach. lessons are organized in advance by the camp director and passed out for review and questions prior to teaching the lessons.)

All clothing must be appropriate;

The terrain is steep and rocky at camp;
do not bring open-toed shoes.
Bring ALL needed clothing and bath
towels for your time at camp. The camp
does not have clothes-washing facilities.
Write your name on all of your
belongings.

KNOW THE ‘NO’S!!!
NO: foods, gum, candy or snacks (Bears like these things too!)
NO: scented lotions, perfume, etc.
NO: cell phones
NO: fireworks, firearms, or knives
NO: money
NO: smoking materials, matches, lighters, etc.
NO: electronic games, dvd players, or portable music players of any kind

If you would like to mail a letter or package to your child, please use the address above. Beware: the mail usually gets picked up once per day in the afternoon--- do not wait too long into the week, or the mail might not make it in time (we'll have to hand it out the next year!).
